Mission Sunday – June 4, 2023

The first Sunday in June will be a special mission service. Our guest speaker will be Kaylee Norwood, the Executive Director of Ancaster Community Services (ACS). St. Andrew’s has been a long-time supporter of ACS, and Kaylee will be sharing some updates on their work in the local community offering programs for seniors, youth, and people in need of extra support.

Today we’ll be continuing through the Book of Acts in our new worship series “Responding to the Holy Spirit.”

Girl Guide Cookies – Sunday May 7:

The 8th Ancaster Embers (Brownies) who meet at St. Andrew’s on Monday evenings will be selling the traditional vanilla and chocolate sandwich style Girl Guide cookies at coffee time after church on May 7.  If you are interested in purchasing some, they are $6/box, cash please.

Save the Date – Saturday June 3:

A social event is being planned for St Andrew’s and friends on Saturday, June 3rd.  The evening will be an opportunity to share a meal, fellowship and live music. Stay tuned, more details to follow. In the meantime, if you have any questions please see Gary Hutchison, Randy Raphael or Jim Robb.

Mission Team Update – Textile Drive:

The Textile Drive collected 229 bags (3,462 pounds) of clothing and other fabric diverted from going to the landfill.  It was a great way to celebrate Earth Day last Saturday.  Thank you so much for your support!  Our next textile drive will be Saturday, October 21, 2023.

Vacation Bible School:

St. John’s Parish Hall (37 Halson Street, Ancaster)
July 3 – July 7 from 9am to 12pm.

We invite children that are going into Sr Kindergarten to Grade 5 to get on a roll with God as the Food Truck Party rolls into their neighborhood for the summer’s biggest party! For grade 6-8, come to Leadership Training. A special course for development of lifelong leadership skills, with some VBS fun too. A fun opportunity for high school youth volunteer hours.

Today is a special Stewardship Sunday. Our guest speaker is Karen Plater, the Associate Secretary for Stewardship & Planned Giving for The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Karen will be giving a short seminar on how to make a planned or enduring gift to support the ongoing ministry of the church during coffee hour.

In her role Karen Plater helps congregations develop effective stewardship programs, encourages them in their mission outreach, and promotes giving to Presbyterians Sharing.

Karen grew up in Peterborough Ontario. She graduated from the International Development Program at the University of Toronto in 1996. While working with The Presbyterian Church in Canada Karen has visited partners in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, India, Malawi, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique and Ukraine. Karen currently splits time between the PCC’s Toronto office and her small farm in Ontario’s Beaver Valley (near Thornbury).

Earth Day Textile Drive:

Our next Textile recycling drive will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9am – 12Noon.  Let’s work together with our local community to keep clothing, fabric and other textiles out of the landfill. If you would like to help out on the day of the drive, please speak to Rev. Anne Yee-Hibbs (ayhibbs@gmail.com or 905-627-9080). Acceptable donations: clothes, towels, curtains, linens, bedding (NO PILLOWS) socks, underwear, shoes, purses and belts.
