Zoom Communion – Sunday June 20, 2021

This Sunday June 20, we will be worshiping by Zoom video conference at 10:30am. Our service will include the celebration of communion.

If you aren’t on St. Andrew’s email list and would like to join our Zoom service please send an email to revjohnread@gmail.com by 9:00am Sunday morning and you will be sent the login information. If you aren’t able to join us live, there will be a recorded and edited version of the service posted to YouTube and available here on the website shortly after 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon (this week’s service will be followed by a congregational meeting so it may be a bit later than usual).

Home Worship – Sunday Jun 13, 2021

This Sunday June 13, 2021. We will be starting a 4-week exploration of the Book of Revelation – a book that has often been misunderstood, but one that ultimately shares a message of hope for the whole world. This week our theme is “Jesus is Alive.”

Our Home Worship service for this week will go live on YouTube at 10:30am. The service continues to be available by telephone for those without internet access. If you know anyone who is not able to access our service online have them call the church office at 905-648-6024 to learn how to phone into the service, or write to Rev. Read at revjohnread@gmail.com.

News:

    • Going Deeper (Study Resources): In worship this week we start to explore the Book of Revelation. Revelation is a challenging book of the Bible, but the Bible Project has some excellent resources that can help make sense of it.     • Textile Recycling Drive: The start of Ontario’s reopening plan means that the St. Andrew’s Textile Drive is back on Saturday, June 26th from 9:00am to Noon. Acceptable donations include: clothes, towels, curtains, linens, bedding (NO PILLOWS or DUVETS) socks, underwear, shoes, purses and belts. Our volunteers will be following all current safety protocols. Let your neighbours know, so that we can keep these items out of landfills and do our part for God’s creation.
    • Update on Reopening St. Andrew’s: Session has decided to reactivate the Reopening Taskforce in light of declining case numbers and Ontario entering stage one of reopening (https://www.ontario.ca/page/reopening-ontario). The Reopening Taskforce will meet this coming week and make recommendations to Session on how to proceed. Initial details will be shared at the congregational meeting following worship on June 20 (see below).
    • Zoom Communion & Budget Review Meeting (June 20): Worship on June 20 will be a Zoom Communion service followed by a congregational budget review meeting (that was announced at the Annual Meeting in April). The Zoom link will be sent out on Saturday as usual. Those who prefer to take in the service on YouTube will be able to access a recording of the Zoom service after 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon.

Home Worship – Sunday June 6, 2021

This Sunday June 6 begins the 2021 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada as it meets online this year (until the end of the day on Wednesday June 9). Rev. John Read will be attending as a commissioner, as will Rev. Nancy Mostert of St. Paul’s Carluke and Knox Binbrook. To better allow them to carry out our role as commissioners, John and Nancy are alternating the Sundays before and after Assembly.

This week we encourage you to connect to:

Carluke and Binbrook in turn will be joining St. Andrew’s for worship next Sunday, June 13. Please pray for Rev. John, Rev. Nancy, the commissioners from the Presbytery of Hamilton and all who will be taking part in this online General Assembly. News:

    • Going Deeper (Study Resources): Nancy will be giving some reflections from the New Testament letter of James. You can find more about James here: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/james/
    • Update on Reopening St. Andrew’s: Session has decided to reactivate the Reopening Taskforce in light of declining case numbers and initial information on the Reopening Plan of the Government of Ontario (https://www.ontario.ca/page/reopening-ontario). The details of the Ontario plan are still developing, but we hope to have more specific information when the province enters Stage One of the plan on June 14. The Reopening Taskforce will meet that week and make recommendations to Session on how to proceed. Initial details will be shared at the congregational meeting following worship on June 20 (see below).
    • Budget Review Meeting: At the Annual Meeting in April, it was announced that there would be a review of the 2021 church budget held in June. This budget review meeting will be held on Sunday June 20 following a Zoom Communion service. More details will be sent out the week before, but if you aren’t on St. Andrew’s mailing list write to revjohnread@gmail.com to receive information on how to join the Zoom meeting.
