This week we continue our new series on the women in Jesus’ family tree who are highlighted in Matthew 1:1-6 — Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Naomi and Bathsheba. We are looking at how people who seem powerless can get through dangerous times and become an essential part of God’s good purpose.

Today we turn to the story of the Book of Ruth – which includes both Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi. We’ll spend a week on each of the 4 chapters of this beautiful little book. Ruth Chapter 1 sets up the tragedy and hardship experienced by Naomi and her family, and the way that God’s loyal love to this Israelite woman is embodied by Ruth — a foreigner from a country that has a difficult history with the Israelites.

Today we turn to the story of Rahab in the book of Joshua (Chapters 2 and 6). This is a story that involves radical trust — both on Rahab’s part and on the part of the Israelite spies she rescues. We’ll be reflecting on the way that trust and being trustworthy opens the door to new life and new possibilities.

For the next seven weeks we’ll be spending time with Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Naomi and Bathsheba. We’ll be looking at how people who seem powerless can get through dangerous times and become an essential part of God’s good purpose.

Today we start with a really messy story in Genesis Chapter 38, one that has a lot to say about what’s right, who’s in the right, and the importance of acknowledging when we’ve been in the wrong.

The Mission Team will be holding the Fall Textile Drive on Sat. October 18th, 2025, 9am-12noon, here at St. Andrew’s.  Acceptable donations include clothes, towels, curtains, linens, bedding (NO PILLOWS) socks, underwear, shoes, purses, belts. Please Note: All donations must be placed in garbage bags. Please no cardboard boxes or bins. All donations are picked up by Canadian Recycling Ltd. The clothing that is usable is sent to Clothing for Charity who distributes it to women’s shelters and burn units.  What is not usable is made into rags. Thank you for your continued support of this worthwhile and environmental initiative.

Summer Psalms – Merciful And Gracious

Rev. John Read is back from bereavement leave and we are concluding our summer series on the Psalms. This week we’ll be looking at how the Psalms invite us to meditate on God’s character.

Our scripture today is Psalm 103. We got the livestream up and working today after some initial technical difficulties with the sound (which is why the recording starts about 5-10 minutes in). That means we should be ready for weekly scheduled livestreaming starting next Sunday, September 7!

“Summer Psalms: Trusting the Shepherd”

This Sunday we continued our summer series on the Book of Psalms. The preaching text was Psalm 23. The Gospel reading was John 10:1-18.

We had some technical difficulties that did not allow us to Livestream the service this week. We were able to record part of the service at a lower video quality. Online worship will take a pause for the next few weeks while we sort these issues out and Rev. John Read is on study leave and vacation. We will attempt to return with a livestreamed service on Sunday August 10 at 10:30am.

“Summer Psalms: Blessed To Be A Blessing”

This Sunday we started a new summer series on the Book of Psalms. The Psalms are the prayer and worship book of the Bible and a great spiritual resource for any season of life. Psalm 67 serves as a prayerful reminder that God blesses some so that they may share that blessing with others, and that God’s ultimate goal is to bless all people. This Psalm also invites us to reflect on the nature of blessing; on God as the generous giver of blessings; and to consider how God has blessed us over the course of our lives. The preaching text was Psalm 67. The Gospel reading was Luke 6:20-36.
