In-Person Worship

We can safely accommodate up to 40 people in the church sanctuary at our usual time of 10:30am. Session is reviewing our COVID safety plan in light of updated public health guidelines.

In-Person Worship Guidelines:

    • All persons 12 years of age and over must be fully vaccinated to attend worship. Please bring proof of vaccination the first time you come to worship and we will keep a record of your status.
    • Please wear a mask and maintain 2m (6 ft.) physical distance from other people outside of your household.
    • Please do not come to worship if you are feeling unwell or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID in the past 14 days.

    • Study Leave & Vacation: Rev. John Read will be away for study leave and vacation from November 15 to 28. If you are in need of urgent pastoral care, please call or email Rev. John Hibbs (905-627-9080 or jayhibbs@cogeco.ca). If you need to contact the Session, please write to Rev. Anne Yee-Hibbs (ayhibbs@gmail.com) or call her at the number above. Our new Office Administrator, Shirl Pequegnat will also be checking the church email (standrewsancaster@gmail.com) and voicemail (905-648-6024) while John is away.
      • November 21 is a Mission Sunday. Our guest speaker will be the Rev. Andy Crowell from the McMaster University Ecumenical Chaplaincy.
      • November 28 is the 1st Sunday of Advent. Worship will be led by the Rev. John Hibbs.
    • Potato Day: In Memory of Howard Atkin, we will be taking up a special offering for Neighbour 2 Neighbour on Sunday November 21. If you use regular offering envelopes just write “Potato Day” on the Special Fund line. Otherwise you can simply use a guest envelope in the pews. You can also make your donation online (In the notes box you can enter, “From St. Andrew’s Ancaster” and click the “In Memory” box at the bottom of the page and write in “Howard Atkin).
    •  Church Yard Clean-Up is Saturday November 27: Our annual fall clean-up of the church and cemetery property will be held from 9:00am to Noon on November 27. Bring your rakes and yard work tools. There will be muffins and coffee afterwards. This is a great chance to get together with our church friends outdoors in a safe way as we tidy things up for the winter.
    • Sunday School Will Be Resuming on Sunday November 28! The Christian Education Team will be ready to start Sunday School classes on the first Sunday of Advent.

News:

    • New Office Administrator:  Shirl Pequegnat (pronounced ‘Peg-in-aw’) started this week in the St. Andrew’s office. Shirl also works as the part-time Office Manager for Family Church of Heritage Green and comes highly recommended. This is a new arrangement for both churches, and we’re going to see how well it works before making it permanent. Shirl will be in the church office two afternoons a week and be checking voicemail and email throughout the week. Shirl is a people person, so feel free to drop in if you’d like to introduce yourself and welcome her to the St. Andrew’s staff team.
    • Sunday School Will Be Resuming on Sunday November 28! With the steady improvement of the public health situation and the low transmission rates of COVID in area schools, Session feels that it is safe to resume in-person Sunday School classes with suitable precautions. The Christian Education Team will start Sunday School classes on the first Sunday of Advent.
    • Online Mission Presentation: On the afternoon of Sunday October 24, the Rev. Dr. Blair Bertrand led a Zoom discussion of his mission work with the Church of Central Africa (Presbyterian) in Malawi. Blair had lots of interesting things to share with us about Malawi, its people, and his ministry there. You can find a video recording of the mission discussion here: https://youtu.be/EPZHxTKen3c

    • Sunday School Will Be Resuming Soon! With the steady improvement of the public health situation and the low transmission rates of COVID in area schools, Session feels that it is safe to resume in-person Sunday School classes with suitable precautions. The Christian Education Team will be meeting shortly to work out the details and set a date for classes to return.

    • Supporting Presbyterians Sharing: Last week, we heard from the Rev. Dr. Blair Bertrand, a missionary with the Presbyterian Church in Canada.     • Mission Sunday: Next Sunday, October 24, will be a special Mission service. Our guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Blair D. Bertrand. Blair is a mission liaison between The Presbyterian Church in Canada and the Church of Central Africa (Presbyterian) in Malawi. Since 2017, he has been a Lecturer and the Director of Research and Educational Quality Assurance at Zomba Theological College. As well, he serves as an Educational Consultant to Theological Education by Extension Malawi. These two institutions train future ministers and lay leaders. Presently Blair serves from his home in Barrhaven with trips to Malawi expected soon.
    • Fresh Food for Mission Services: If you missed our Thanksgiving Food Drive for fresh produce last Sunday, you still can bring your fresh food with you this week (October 17). You can also make a direct donation to Mission Services.
    • The Mission Team is sponsoring a drive for the Purse Project. Our volunteers will be following all current safety protocols. Let your neighbours know, so that we can keep these items out of landfills and do our part for God’s creation.
